Description

In 2007, we opened Casa Oaxaca in Washington, D.C., a traditional restaurant that brings the flavors and colors of Mexico to the capital city of U.S. Our main objective is to give Washingtonians a better exposure to the richness and diversity of Mexican cuisine. The team is headed by Karen Barroso (Mexico) and Rolando Juárez (El Salvador) who focused on the southern state of Oaxaca and its great culinary traditions; together with Chef Alfio Blangiardo, born in Tehuacan Puebla, we bring the greatness of Oaxaca to D.C.

At Casa Oaxaca, you will enjoy a unique combination of authentic ingredients featured in original appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks. We bring you a complete cultural experience; we want you to feel at home through the warmth and hospitality of our staff.
About Oaxaca

Oaxaca is one of Mexico’s 31 states; it is located in the Southern region of the country. Along the state, you can find archaeological sites, colonial cities and beautiful beaches. It is such a diverse region populated by different ethnic groups such as the Zapotec and Mixtec peoples. Great part of the traditions and heritage of Oaxaca come for them and can be appreciated through the art craft, the festivities, the colors in the streets, the flavors in the markets, etc. Oaxaca is Mexico!

The integration of pre Hispanic traditions with the Spanish heritage from colonial times is well represented in the food you find in Oaxaca. One of the most representative dishes from the area is Mole, which is considered an authentic handcraft due to the complex elaboration process as well as the number of ingredients included. This word t comes from nahuatl language and means, sauce. At Casa Oaxaca, moles are our specialty and we have six types that you will be able to taste with chicken, beef, seafood or tortillas.

Corn, chiles, beans, mescal, tequila, huitlacoche among others, are versatile ingredients that enable us to satisfy our costumers cravings for Mexican food. Do not hesitate, visit us and get ready to enjoy a complete cultural experience!
